The Director of Mobilisation of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Beta Edu, has disclosed plans to mobilise nearly 40 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 general elections.
Edu said the target would require sustained grassroots engagement, particularly with women, rather than relying solely on campaign rallies.
She spoke in Kaduna when she led members of the PCC mobilization team on a courtesy visit to the state deputy governor, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, ahead of the planned APC presidential campaign rally.
“Our plan as the PCC mobilisation directorate is to see that we can mobilise at least close to 40 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And we cannot do this without getting down to the grassroots,” she said.
Edu said the mobilisation strategy would involve reaching women in their homes, markets and communities to understand their concerns and communicate the administration’s policies and achievements.
“We want to engage with women. We want to find out what their challenges are. We want to find out how best we can get to the grassroots,” she said.
She urged women leaders in Kaduna State to mobilise support peacefully and without intimidation, stressing that their participation would be important to the campaign’s efforts ahead of the elections.
Edu also said the administration’s second term would focus on prosperity following the reforms introduced during its first term.
“We have gone through the reform phase already. Now it’s time for prosperity,” she said.
She commended the Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani for its efforts in road construction, public transportation and primary healthcare.
Edu also praised Balarabe for becoming the first elected female deputy governor in Northwest Nigeria, describing her emergence as a significant milestone for women’s participation in politics.
Responding, Balarabe said the state government and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) were taking preparations for Tinubu’s planned visit seriously, adding that several meetings had been held to ensure a successful event.
She called on the PCC mobilisation team to support the preparations and urged women to take the campaign message to communities across the state.
Balarabe said women should help explain the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda and record to other women at the grassroots, adding that effective mobilisation would require sustained engagement beyond campaign rallies.
