The district administration conducted an environmental public hearing on Thursday near Nakkapalli for the proposed greenfield captive port project spearheaded by M/s AMNS Ports Rajayyapeta Private Limited, said District Collector Vijaya Krishnan.
The proposed greenfield facility is planned across a 2.9-kilometre coastline covering the limits of Donevani Lakshmipuram and Gunupudi villages. The consultative forum was organised as a mandatory step to secure environmental clearance (EC) for maritime and industrial infrastructure expansion in the region.
Over 870 participants—including local residents, public representatives, and non-governmental organisation delegates—attended the session, with 19 individuals formally registering their feedback, concerns, and suggestions regarding the project. District authorities noted that the majority of participants extended their support to the port initiative, acknowledging its potential for regional trade and employment, while others presented specific constructive recommendations.
Addressing the gathering, Collector Vijaya Krishnan assured that all viewpoints, suggestions, and ecological concerns raised during the proceedings would be meticulously documented and forwarded to the appropriate environmental appraisal authorities for statutory review. She emphasised that the primary objective of the public hearing is to ensure transparency and give local communities a platform to voice their perspectives.
Joint Collector Shourya Man Patel, Joint Chief Environmental Engineer from the Visakhapatnam zonal office S. Shankar Naik, and Regional Environmental Engineer P.V. Mukunda Rao were among the senior officials present at the venue.
