Nepal said it is saddened by the death of a Nepali citizen in an incident involving debris from an intercepted drone at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement posted on X on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Nepal reiterated its condemnation of all attacks targeting civilians and critical infrastructure. It also extended condolences to the bereaved family and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a Nepali citizen in debris falling from an intercepted drone attack at Saudi Aramco's Shaybah Oil field yesterday,” the ministry said.
Reiterating Nepal’s position against attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure, the ministry called for the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue, negotiation and diplomatic engagement.
“Reaffirming our principled position, Nepal continues to call for the peaceful resolution of disputes including through dialogue, negotiation, and diplomatic engagement,” the statement said.
The death highlights the risks faced by Nepali migrant workers in the Gulf region, where many work in sectors including construction, security, hospitality and energy. Saudi Arabia is an important destination for Nepali migrant workers, and their safety remains a concern amid regional tensions and threats to critical infrastructure.
The Shaybah oil field, operated by Saudi Aramco, is located in the Rub’ al Khali desert in southeastern Saudi Arabia. Energy facilities across the Gulf have faced security threats amid wider regional tensions, raising concerns about worker safety and the stability of energy supplies.
Nepal has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as means of resolving international disputes and called for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
