German police have declared that there is 'no danger' after Nuremberg airport was closed following an aviation emergency.
Flight operations were suspended and police cordoned off the airport shortly before the landing of a plane from the Greek island of Corfu.
The flight was scheduled to land in Nuremberg at approximately 12.15pm. According to Flightradar24, the Corendon Airlines aircraft landed safely at 12.16pm.
An airport spokesperson said Eurofighter jets escorted the plane arriving from the Greek island before it landed.
But in a later update, the Mittelfranken police force confirmed that the situation posed 'no danger'.
'The aircraft in question is a scheduled flight from Corfu, which landed in Nuremberg as planned,' the statement said.
'On-site inspections have determined that there is no danger.'
In a statement on its website, the airport did not specify the reason behind the closure and said more information would follow.
Germany's Nuremberg airport said on Tuesday that flight operations have been suspended because of an aviation emergency
A police source told German outlet Bild that officers assumed 'a possible in-flight emergency', though nothing is confirmed.
'We received a report of an unclear air emergency. In the meantime, the aircraft has landed safely in Nuremberg. Investigations into the cause are currently underway,' the Mittelfranken police force said in an earlier statement on X.
The alert came hours after police revealed pilots had seen objects, believed to be drones, in the sky during take off and landing at the airport overnight.
'Three pilots, independently of each other, reported seeing an object between 2am and 4am during the respective landing or takeoff process at the Albrecht-Dürer Airport Nuremberg. It may have been a drone,' a police statement said.
'The Nuremberg Airport Border Police Inspectorate conducted, in close cooperation with the responsible authorities at Albrecht-Dürer Airport Nuremberg and the German Air Traffic Control, immediate measures to investigate and detect the reported object.
'In this context, there were temporary disruptions to air traffic during the mentioned period.
'The measures, including the use of a police helicopter, did not lead to the verification of the reported object.
'The Nuremberg Border Police Inspectorate is now conducting further investigations to clarify the events.'
The airport confirmed the closure on its website. 'Due to an in-flight emergency, flight operations are currently suspended,' it said in a statement.
Several planes that were scheduled to land in Nuremberg were diverted to Frankfurt, Memmingen, Stuttgart, or Munich, according to Bild.
The outlet added that the Special Deployment Commando (SEK) is also present at the airport.
