Ballot boxes from the disputed Kassanda South parliamentary election have been delivered to Mubende High Court ahead of a recount ordered by Justice Mary Babirye following a petition by independent candidate Eria Mubiru.
Heavy security has been deployed at Mubende High Court ahead of a vote recount scheduled for Friday in the Kassanda South parliamentary election dispute.
Ballot boxes from the contested election have already been delivered to the court premises ahead of the exercise, which is expected to establish whether the votes were accurately tallied.
The recount follows an order by Justice Mary Babirye, the acting judge handling election petitions at the High Court.
The application was filed by independent candidate Eria Mubiru, who is challenging the declaration of National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Hajji Abdul Bisaso as the winner of the Kassanda South parliamentary election.
Mubiru is seeking a recount to establish the accuracy of the declared results.
Security personnel have been deployed to maintain order and ensure the exercise proceeds peacefully. The process is expected to draw attention from supporters of both candidates as the court examines the disputed ballots.
The recount forms part of the ongoing legal dispute over the election outcome. Its findings may inform the court’s determination of the petition, but the recount alone should not be taken to mean that the declared winner has been overturned.
