The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has provided emergency cash assistance to 625 people affected by flooding in Hohoe in the Volta Region to help them meet their immediate needs and recover from the disaster.
The intervention, delivered through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, follows flooding that struck parts of the municipality on September 28, 2026.
The floods, triggered by heavy rainfall and the overflow of the River Dayi, damaged homes and properties, disrupted livelihoods and left several families in need of urgent assistance.
During a visit to the affected communities on September 30, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, interacted with residents and assessed the extent of the damage.
Following the visit, the Minister directed that measures be put in place to assist affected households, ease their hardship and support their recovery.
The emergency cash assistance is intended to help beneficiaries purchase food and essential household items, replace lost belongings and cover other urgent expenses resulting from the flooding.
The Ministry expects the intervention to provide financial relief to affected families as they work to restore their livelihoods and rebuild their lives.
The 625 beneficiaries constitute the first batch of identified flood-affected households receiving assistance under the intervention.
