Recruiting analyst Joe Tipton, among others, reports that 5-star target Asa Montgomery has canceled visits to Arizona and Louisville. Additionally, he now has several Crystal Balls pegging Duke as his final choice.
Montgomery is about 6-6, has a 6-10 wingspan, and some analysts think he’s not done growing. He’s an excellent defender and a guy who’s willing to do the dirty work.
The reports are encouraging, but please remember this: it’s entirely possible in today’s game that another school could just come along, offer significantly more, and things could immediately change.
Who knows?
But if he ultimately does choose Duke, Jon Scheyer is putting together another really good class: aside from Montgomery, he’d have Kager Knueppel and Luke Paul.
One thing that’s interesting about Scheyer as a talent analyst is that he has repeatedly identified young players who are about to blow up, or at least who are significantly underrated. It’s a pretty handy knack for a coach to have, really.
