The Denver Nuggets were on the verge of being blown out by the New Orleans Pelicans, and their fans were less than impressed with the effort they showed.
The Nuggets were down by 23 points at one point against the Pelicans, who are one of the weakest teams in the NBA.
And while Jokic helped the team rally and earn a comeback win against the Pelicans in overtime, the franchise superstar wasn’t exactly happy with the way fans treated them during their comeback effort.
Nikola Jokic says Denver Nuggets fans who booed them should not attend future games
Speaking to reporters after the game, Nikola Jokic said he didn’t appreciate the fans who booed them at the Ball Arena and that they shouldn’t attend a future game.
He noted that the Nuggets have shown in the past that they are capable of coming back from large deficits, and that fans should have supported them more vocally rather than jeering them.
Jokic said: “I think the fans that booed us are not welcome here anymore, if you ask me… if you guys follow us, you know that we never quit and we came back from much worse for similar situations. If you ask me, they’re not welcome anymore.”
This was far from the first time that the Denver Nuggets have pulled off such a comeback at home. In February of 2020, the Nuggets pulled off a near-identical 23-point comeback against the San Antonio Spurs, albeit doing so in regulation rather than overtime.
The Nuggets are now 1-1 to start the season, getting their first win after their season-opening loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Coming into the season, there were many concerns that the Nuggets had not built a strong enough roster around Nikola Jokic to compete for the NBA championship in a stacked Western Conference.
So far, even with their win against the Pelicans, the Nuggets have shown that those concerns were valid, and they have a lot to work on as the season goes on.
