Revolut suffered a widespread service outage on Tuesday as Alphabet $GOOGL's Google Cloud reported problems in its London region. A person familiar with the matter linked the Revolut disruption to Google Cloud, according to Reuters and Bloomberg.
Payments by card, money transfers, cash-machine withdrawals, foreign-currency swaps and share trading were all out of action at the U.K. digital bank, according to The Wall Street Journal. Revolut's status page listed the majority of its services as either down or only partly working, according to Reuters.
"We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers' money and data are safe," a Revolut Bank spokesperson said, according to The Wall Street Journal. The spokesperson added that the company has been working on a fix since identifying the problem on Tuesday morning and apologized to affected customers.
Google Cloud posted a status update reporting a string of problems, beginning at 0608 GMT, in europe-west2, the region the company identifies as London. Google's engineering team continues to investigate, the update said.
Google gave no cause for the disruption, according to Bloomberg. The company's update suggested that customers shift their operations to different cloud regions "if feasible," according to Bloomberg. A Google spokesperson offered no additional remarks, according to Bloomberg. Google had not yet replied to a request from Reuters for more information.
Other financial firms reported disruption. Lloyds Banking Group said its app remained accessible to customers as usual, though certain web-based offerings were hit by problems, according to The Wall Street Journal. "We are aware of similar issues affecting other organizations and are monitoring the situation closely," a Lloyds spokesperson said.
HSBC and Royal Bank of Scotland, which NatWest Group owns, also ran into problems on Tuesday, according to Bloomberg. Representatives for both banks had not yet answered Bloomberg's inquiries about the disruption.
