The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate in Niger state, Muhammad Nami, has redeemed the pledge to donate N15 million and 38 motorcycles to the families of 37 miners who died in custody of the NSCDC in Niger state recently.
Nami disclosed the redemption of the pledge in a statement released in Minna on Friday.
He said the donations were made through the Niger South Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, established about 20 years ago as part of his humanitarian efforts to support vulnerable members of society.
“The donated funds and motorcycles were presented to the affected families by a delegation led by Nami’s deputy governorship candidate in the Niger state governorship race, Dahiru Danhazami Abdul, who represented Nami at the event,” the statement read in part.
He called on the bereaved families to take heart and remain strong despite the painful loss of their loved ones, adding that “the intervention was aimed at showing solidarity with the affected families and providing support at a difficult time.”
“The N15 million and 38 motorcycles donations are expected to provide some relief to the beneficiaries as they continue to cope with the consequences of the tragedy,” he statement read further.
He said the intervention also added to the on-going efforts by individuals and organisations to support families affected by the tragic deaths of the alleged illegal miners in the state.
