Whenever the Seattle Seahawks play the San Francisco 49ers, it's a showdown for the books. This rivalry has been in place for decades, and it's not going anywhere. Still, Sunday's game seemed even a bit more heated, with the defending Super Bowl champion going up against the undefeated 49ers.
It was close, but the 49ers edged out a victory, 32-29. The Seahawks had four turnovers, including two interceptions tossed by quarterback Sam Darnold, as well as fumbles from running backs George Holani and Emanuel Wilson. So, it was a rough day for Seattle.
Mike Macdonald looks ahead after Seahawks' loss to 49ers
After the game, head coach Mike Macdonald expressed disappointment but was also positive. He pointed toward the team's next game, which is on Thursday against the Denver Broncos.
"We're disappointed. I think our guys played hard. We stuck together," he said, according to the team's official website. "I think we got a tough team. I think we're a connected team. But in terms of playing complimentary football, the way that we want to play here as Seahawks and become the team that we want to become, we're not there yet."
He added, "So, good news is we have a game in four days that we can move forward and learn from and try to grow from. So that's the good news. But we need to grow quickly in terms of complimentary football, definitely taking care of the football. Way too many giveaways at this point in the season."
He added that the players "played incredibly hard," but that they're missing something, noting that "the complimentary piece of what we want to become right now is not there, so we didn't do it."
He also gave the 49ers credit for their performance. Now, the focus shifts to "Thursday Night Football" and the Broncos.
