With the New York Yankees’ playoff struggles impacting them once again in another disappointing postseason exit, all eyes have been on whether the team would move on from manager Aaron Boone. As the Yankees’ future of Boone and even Brian Cashman are in conversation within the baseball world once again, this MLB insider gives a crucial update on the manager’s tenure with the team.
According to Pete Caldera at USA Today, Boone is “returning” to New York for the 2027 season as its skipper, as the reporter notes that it will be the final “guaranteed year of his current contract.”
Aaron Boone is returning as Yankees [manager] in 2027, per MLB executive source. Next season is the final guaranteed year of his current contract,” Caldera wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

There is no denying that there has been a lot of chatter from the fanbase about Boone, who has been the manager of the Yankees since 2018, and has amassed a 790-565 record. Making the playoffs in every season besides 2023, the farthest the team has reached has been the World Series in 2024, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Yankees have “no desire for a change”
New York made the ALCS two other times, but in the two seasons following the World Series appearance, or in the last two years, it featured eliminations in the ALDS. Just recently, one of those eliminations happened in the 2026 MLB Playoffs, losing to the Tampa Bay Rays.
The news of Boone staying may not shock some, as Bryan Hoch reported for MLB.com that managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner “has no desire for a change.”
“Boone is under contract through 2027, which would be his 10th season,” Hoch wrote. “Cashman’s contract expires this winter; he has held the position since 1998. While ownership has not commented on Cashman’s status, industry reports suggest Steinbrenner has no desire for a change.”
The excuse could be made that superstar Aaron Judge missed the entirety of the playoffs, but something has got to give as Boone will look to further improve in 2027 after having a 93-68 record in 2026, putting them second in the AL East.
