CHANGWON — The city of Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province will waive fees for 12 types of civil documents issued at self-service kiosks, including resident registration certificates, starting on the 15th. Of the roughly 590,000 kiosk transactions last year, about 400,000 involved documents covered by the new exemption.
The city said it is waiving the fees to ease the cost burden of using administrative services and to improve access and satisfaction.
The exemption covers the most frequently requested documents available at the kiosks: two types of resident registration certificates, two types of removed-family-register certificates, and eight types of family relation records, including basic certificates, marriage records and adoption records, as well as closed-register certificates.
The city expects the move to help reduce congestion at service counters as more residents turn to non-face-to-face administrative services.
"We expect this fee exemption to allow us to provide more convenient, citizen-centered administrative services," Changwon Mayor Kang Ki-yun said. "We will do our best to bring about changes that residents can feel in their daily lives."
Changwon operates 137 self-service kiosks at government offices, hospitals and commercial buildings. The machines issue 124 types of civil documents, covering resident registration, land, cadastral and building records, and vehicles. Kiosk locations, operating hours and available documents can be found on the Changwon city website.
