The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has formed district-level committees to inspect private school buildings across the province following the collapse of a classroom roof at Al-Khair Education System in Peshawar’s Dir Colony.
According to a notification issued by the provincial Elementary and Secondary Education Department, the committees will survey and physically inspect private school buildings to identify structural defects, safety hazards and other faults that could endanger students, teachers and other staff.
The committees have been directed to submit detailed reports, along with recommendations for necessary corrective measures, to the department within three days of their formation.
The committees will be headed by the District Monitoring Officer of the Education Monitoring Authority (EMA) in each district.
Their members will include the relevant District Education Officer, Sub-District Education Officers (SDEOs) and Assistant District Education Officers (ADEOs) responsible for planning and development, a representative of the Communications and Works (C&W) Department, and other relevant officials.
The inspections will cover all private school buildings in their respective districts, including premises owned by schools and those operating in rented buildings.
The committees will also classify school buildings according to their safety conditions, recommending whether they are safe, require repairs or improvements, or may be unsafe for use.
Authorities in the relevant districts must be informed immediately about buildings identified as potentially dangerous, the notification said.
