Nawalapitiya Urban Council Chairman Amal Priyankara and 03 others have been arrested yesterday (Oct. 11).
The arrest was made after an incident took place on Oct. 10 in front of the Chairman’s residence in the Bawwagama area of Talawakelle.
The accident occurred when a person said to be an associate of Amal Priyankara was crossing the road in front of his residence and was struck by a motorcycle travelling towards Nawalapitiya town.
An assault also took place at the scene following the accident, which was captured by a CCTV camera installed at the location.
The Police Computer Crime Investigation Unit conducted an investigation based on the CCTV footage obtained.
Accordingly, the Chairman, his son, his son-in-law, and the rider of the motorcycle involved in the accident were arrested yesterday.
