Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has missed each of the team's last three games since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season.
Williams pumped his fist through tears as he was carted off the field in Chicago, leading many to believe he'd suffered a long-term injury. However, when reports later indicated that he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain, many fans and analysts piled on with criticism of his dramatic reaction.
Williams fired back at these critics when speaking with reporters on Thursday.
“Yeah, I’m always going to show emotion, especially when I can’t be out there with the guys," Williams said. "I care about the team, the organization, winning, being out there, my teammates — all of that. I care, and that’s the biggest thing. This is what I love to do. This puts a smile on my face. It’s everything to me.
"So, not being able to be out there was frustrating. That was more of the tears, or whatever that was.”
Williams also said he was frustrated about how his injury was reported, saying all of the reports were incorrect. However, he would not go into any further detail regarding the true nature of his injury.
