Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan today (13 October) said the government would ensure the productive use of Bangladesh Freedom Fighter Welfare Trust's assets, including long-unused property in Chattogram's Rangunia, to serve the state's interests and create jobs for locals.
He made the remarks while visiting the premises of Eastern Chemical Industries Ltd, an institution under the Trust, in Chattogram's Rangunia upazila, where nearly 10 acres of land have remained unused for years.
The minister said that over the past 17 years, assets belonging to the liberation war affairs ministry and the Trust had been left abandoned.
He also said there had been a conspiracy to sell off the assets and gradually reduce the ministry and the Trust to nothing.
The minister said leaving such a large area unused was causing losses to the state.
After returning to Dhaka, he would consult relevant officials before deciding how best to use the land, taking into account the state's interests and local employment, he added.
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Engineer Ishraque Hossain said the government was assessing the feasibility of productive projects on properties belonging to the Trust, with the aim of creating local jobs and increasing government revenue.
As part of the assessment, officials visited the abandoned factory of Eastern Chemical Industries Ltd, he said, adding that the officials would collect, review, and analyse the necessary information before conducting a feasibility study to determine what projects could be implemented.
