KEPALA BATAS: Heavy rain since this morning has triggered flash floods in several areas here, inundating homes and disrupting residents.
Among the affected areas were Penaga, Permatang Bertam, Permatang Bogak, Taman Abdullah Fahim, Bertam and Pajak Song.
In Jalan Datuk Haji Ahmad Badawi, floodwaters reached knee level inside the home of cook Mohamad Nur Irfan Aziz, 36.
He said water began entering his house at about 10.30am, following a similar incident in the area about two weeks ago.
"The water was slightly below knee level during the previous incident, but this time it reached knee level inside my house," he said.
Irfan said recurring flash floods had plagued the area for years, which he attributed to an inadequate drainage system along the road.
He said the drains were unable to channel rainwater effectively, causing it to accumulate and spill into homes during prolonged or heavy rain.
"The problem has been going on for years, and I have reported it to the relevant authorities. However, no further action has been taken to resolve it," he said.
He said he remained anxious whenever heavy rain persisted, fearing floodwaters would once again enter his home.
Irfan urged the authorities to address the drainage problem and implement a lasting solution to prevent further flooding.
Meanwhile, heavy rain in several parts of Penang has provided some respite from the haze that has affected the state in recent weeks.
