KARACHI: Police have recorded statements of neighbours and obtained CCTV footage as part of the investigation into the deaths of a husband and wife whose bodies were found in their house in North Karachi’s Sir Syed area, ARY News reported.
According to police, CCTV footage showing people entering and leaving the house is also unclear.
Statements of labourers who carried out different kinds of work at the house have also been recorded, police said.
A mobile phone recovered from the house has been sent for forensic analysis.
Police further said the couple’s children are expected to arrive in Karachi by tomorrow.
Meanwhile the postmortem reports of the elderly couple have revealed severe head injuries, police say.
The bodies of Muhammad Yamin, aged between 65 and 70, and his wife, Nafis Akhtar, aged between 60 and 65, were found at their house, according to the police surgeon.
Both victims had deep and serious injuries to their heads. Investigators suspect they were killed with a heavy, blunt object.
Samples were collected from the bodies during the post-mortem examinations and will undergo chemical analysis to establish whether either victim was given poison or an intoxicating substance before the killings.
A murder case has been registered at Sir Syed police station on the complaint of Muhammad Anwar, the deceased man’s brother.
According to the complainant, Yamin and his wife had recently returned from Canada.
After returning, Yamin had asked his sister to vacate the house and had begun renovation work on the property.
On the day of the incident, the couple did not answer their telephone calls, prompting Anwar to visit the house.
He opened the door using a duplicate key and found the bodies of his brother and sister-in-law lying in a pool of blood in the television lounge. He then alerted the police.
Police say the motive for the killings remains unknown and the suspects have not yet been identified.
