President John Mahama has cut sod for the construction of the 1,238-acre Afienya Industrial Park, a project government expects to boost manufacturing, attract investment, and create jobs.
The park is designed to accommodate more than 120 enterprises. It will provide essential infrastructure, including power, water, roads, and waste treatment facilities, to make it easier for businesses to set up factories and begin production.
Speaking at the ceremony on Thursday, 15 October 2026, President Mahama said the development would help meet growing investor demand after available space at the Tema Export Processing Zone had been exhausted.
He said the government’s proposed $10 billion New Economy Programme, which is to begin next year, would support infrastructure development at the park as part of efforts to expand production, reduce imports, and increase exports.
After the sod-cutting, the President toured some industries in the enclave. He said the government is intentional about unlocking opportunities for growth, opening up industries, and creating more employment.
