LAHORE: Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Prof Dr Jodat Saleem has said that Pakistan’s future is linked to its youth and their good health is indispensable for success and progress in every field.
While addressing the closing and prize distribution ceremony of the annual Sports Week of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC), Prof Dr Farooq Afzal said that regular participation in sports and extra-curricular activities develops discipline, endurance, self-confidence, leadership qualities and team spirit among young doctors. These activities help them relieve the pressure of academic and clinical commitments, refine their abilities and advance through healthy competition, he added.
He stressed that medical students must take full part in sports alongside their academic and research pursuits so that they can emerge as competent physicians and serve the nation and humanity.
Vice Principal Prof Dr Muhammad Shahid remarked that students who displayed outstanding performance and discipline in the Sports Gala would serve suffering humanity with the same spirit in their professional lives.
Speaking to the media, Prof Jodat Saleem said that medical students have to work extremely hard and remain fully focused on their studies to become competent doctors. For this reason, it is all the more essential that they also allocate time for extracurricular activities and sports to stay physically fit, energetic and mentally sharp, he added.
