KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said the government has intensified rescue and relief efforts for people affected by the severe flooding in the Budhi Gandaki River in northern Gorkha on Sunday.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Sunday, Gurung said rescue operations were underway alongside the distribution of relief supplies.
He said the government was also working to restore electricity and telephone services, with solar power systems being installed after hydropower facilities were damaged by the floods.
The severe flooding in northern Gorkha on Sunday morning caused extensive damage to settlements along the Budhi Gandaki River.
