A special bond has been formed between Roma and José Mourinho that will never fade.
“When the best moments of a long career are neither goals nor victories, but rather emotions for which I can only humbly express my gratitude. Thank you Roma, thank you Romanisti. Emotions and eternal gratitude to you. Jose,” with these words the Special One thanked the Romanisti after Roma-Real Madrid.
And the Curva Sud did not forget their leader. In the stands, fans reserved chants, choreography, and banners for the Portuguese, who responded by raising his hand to his chest.
But even before the match—as revealed by lawyer Lorenzo Contucci—the fans “recognized the former Giallorossi coach as a son of Rome.”
The Curva Sud paid tribute to Mourinho by presenting him with a 1925 bronze Capitoline Wolf by J. Cuevas. Along with this gift, the Special One also received a letter: “Mister, they didn’t give us time to thank you and say goodbye, so we’re doing it today. Thank you for giving us back our dignity, pride, and the ability to dream. This is worth more than any victory.”
And a tear-jerking moment: “Someone among us who is no longer with us said, ‘We didn’t win much, but winning once was enough to say we had won more than anyone else.’ So we came to you on behalf of the entire Curva Sud to say thank you. This Capitoline Wolf means that Rome recognizes you as its son. Thank you forever, Mister. The Curva Sud.”
