With the New York Giants running back looking for someone to fill in that top spot, one would think the clear answer is Cam Skattebo, though the 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints featured a jam at the position. As Giants running back Najee Harris admitted confusion over the situation, head coach John Harbaugh would respond to his player’s thoughts.
Harris would say to the media that “it’s hard to get in a rhythm with one or two plays,” admitting that he has “never been through none of this before,” according to Greg Johnson. “Harbaugh would be asked about Harris ‘ comments, saying that the rushing attack “hasn’t earned” a “circumstance” to that of Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry or Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley.
“I do understand it, respect it. Also understand that that’s earned. I would love for us to be in that kind of a circumstance, a Derrick Henry circumstance or the Saquon Barkley circumstance … that would be great,” Harbaugh said, per Greg Johnson. “Our run game hasn’t earned that yet. None of those guys have. My advice would be to any player…’Do the most you can with the opportunities you get. Make the most of those opportunities, and you’re sure to get more opportunities.

Giants’ John Harbaugh continues response to Najee Harris
In the Giants’ aforementioned loss to the Saints, the top rusher was quarterback J.J. McCarthy with 26 yards, but the leading running back was Tyrone Tracy Jr. at six carries for 18 yards. Harris would get four carries for two yards, Devin Singletary with four carries for 14 yards, and Skattebo recorded six offensive snaps.
“I get it that you want to get out there, and you want to get in a rhythm, but that rhythm is earned, too,” Harbaugh said. “My advice is, ‘Go out there and take the job when you get the ball.’ That would be true, I think good advice, for all of us at all times in every circumstance, and I know he [Harris] understands that.”
It remains to be seen how the Giants’ running game looks on Sunday against the Houston Texans.
