Her situation came to national attention when she posted a video appealing to Kenyans for help, describing her living conditions and the enormous burden that had fallen on her children.
The clip struck a nerve across social media, drawing widespread sympathy and eventually catching the attention of comedian and philanthropist Eric Omondi.
How Kenyans Rallied Behind the Githurai Mum
Eric Omondi mobilised his followers to contribute towards Millicent's medical needs and a proper home for her family.
The funds raised were used to admit her to hospital, where she received the care she had long been denied, and to begin construction of a storey building on her property. The plan was designed with her long-term livelihood in mind: once complete, she would be able to rent out units on the upper floor and generate a steady income.
The ground floor has since been finished and furnished. A hospital bed was purchased to keep her comfortable at home, where she still relies on supplemental oxygen.
Eric visited the home on October 14 and walked through the compound alongside Millicent's sons, taking in the progress made since construction began.
A chicken coop had been set up on the property, giving the family another small source of food and income.
Millicent, visibly moved, broke into tears and embraced Eric warmly when he arrived. Despite her continuing health challenges, her spirit appeared undimmed.
"I am good, very good," she said.
Githurai mum's rental houses yet to be completed
Eric told viewers that the structural work on the multi-storey building was essentially finished, with only the finishing touches remaining before Millicent could begin renting out the units.
"We are done with piping; all that is left is the floor and windows then Millicent will become a landlord," he said.
He also shared a personal milestone from the family, noting that her son Simon would be joining secondary school soon.
"Our Githurai mum and the children are holding on fine. Simon will soon be joining high school," Eric said.
The visit offered Kenyans who had followed Millicent's story a rare and reassuring glimpse into how their generosity had translated into tangible change, both in her living conditions and in the futures her children now have ahead of them.
