The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has appointed Dr Paul Machocho Wanyeki as its new Director General and Chief Executive Officer.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 21, the authority said Wanyeki brings more than 15 years of experience in technical education regulation, policy development, quality assurance, and institutional management.
“The Board of Directors of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Paul Machocho Wanyeki as the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Authority,” the statement read.
He previously held senior positions at the authority, including acting Director of Standards Development, Compliance and Enforcement, where he contributed to regulatory oversight and reforms in the sector.

His professional background also includes service at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and work as a trainer at Kisiwa National Polytechnic.
TVETA Board Chairperson Kellen Kiambati expressed confidence in his ability to lead the authority and strengthen the quality of training in the country.
The board also acknowledged Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo for his leadership while serving as acting Director General since May 2025.
In May, TVETA launched a search for a substantive office holder after exceeding the statutory six-month limit for acting appointments.
The announcement comes after the Employment and Labour Relations Court issued orders halting Wanyeki’s appointment in August amid a legal dispute over the recruitment process.
Justice Monica Mbaru had barred Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba from gazetting the appointment, pending the hearing of a petition challenging the process, which was scheduled for September.
The dispute was about the recruitment process, particularly the decision to back a candidate who did not rank first in the interviews.
Josiah Moriasi, CEO of the Youth Fund, emerged first in the interviews with 84.9 per cent, followed by Wanyeki at 80.4 per cent and then Leah Kaburu, CEO of the Sports Disputes Tribunal, who scored 78.9 per cent.
Ogamba had recommended Moriasi for the position, while Head of Public Service Felix Koskei backed Wanyeki.
The petitioner had argued that an executive circular requiring the Head of Public Service’s approval for chief executive appointments conflicts with the recruitment procedure provided for under the TVET Act.
