Express Entry is an online platform used by the Canadian government to manage applications from skilled workers seeking to settle in the country permanently.
The system oversees three federal immigration programmes: the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Programme, and the Federal Skilled Trades Programme.
What are the charges for Express Entry?
Prospective applicants are required to first create a profile and enter a pool of candidates.
The government then issues invitations to apply to those who score the highest points in periodic draws. Once invited, candidates must complete and submit their full application, after which immigration authorities review it and issue a decision.
The primary applicant is charged CAD 1,590 (KSh 146,000) to process their permanent residence application. Spouses accompanying the main applicant are subject to the same fee of CAD 1,590 (KSh 146,000), while dependent children each attract a lower fee of CAD 270 (KSh 24,800).
This means a family of three, comprising two adults and one child, would collectively pay CAD 3,450 (KSh 317,000) in application fees alone before any additional costs are factored in.
The Express Entry pathway remains one of the most commonly used routes for skilled workers looking to gain Canadian permanent residence, given its structured points-based selection process and relatively predictable timelines compared to other immigration streams.
How many invitations did Canada issue?
In related news, we highlighted facts about Canada’s latest Express Entry draw, which issued 2,500 permanent residence invitations to Canadian Experience Class candidates.
The lowest-ranked invitee had a Comprehensive Ranking System score of 519.
The draw comes as Canada expects to admit up to 230,000 temporary foreign workers in 2026, creating potential opportunities for applicants from Kenya.
