Elon Musk Drops $1 Billion on Skydance, Puts Skin in the Game at CNN’s Parent Company
Elon Musk just wrote a $1 billion check to Skydance, the media company that recently absorbed Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. The move makes him a minority owner of the sprawling operation that controls CNN, HBO, CBS, and Paramount+.
The cash is aimed at lightening an $80 billion debt load left over from the merger. Laurene Powell Jobs and others are also in on the deal. Musk does not get editorial control or a newsroom veto, but a free-speech advocate who has spent years calling out mainstream media bias now has real money riding on the same balance sheet as CNN.
That network has spent years as the preferred destination for Democratic talking points and selective outrage. Viewers noticed. Trust numbers cratered. Now one of the loudest critics of that model is financially tied to its parent.
Reactions on X have already turned it into a punchline, with users imagining what CNN segments might sound like if the ownership math actually mattered.-DTP
