On Friday, around one hundred Calvia Town Hall employees, many of them from the police, staged a protest to denounce what they said is a lack of town hall willingness to negotiate a new labour agreement. They added that, despite the mayor’s expressions of goodwill during the last council session, there is a complete standstill regarding improvements to working conditions and salaries.
Three unions represented at the town hall have announced a series of protests, the first of which was on Friday morning. "After years of fruitless meetings and attempts at dialogue, the workers' representatives believe the situation has reached its limit."
They claim that union representatives have repeatedly put forward proposals to improve working conditions, review the organisational structure of job positions and update the financial components of the labour agreement. However, the governing team (PP-Vox) has consistently maintained an "intransigent stance", which can only be explained by "a lack of any real desire to reach an agreement".
Consequently, they are demanding an immediate end to the deadlock in collective bargaining, an update to financial terms to address the current loss of purchasing power, and improvements to work-life balance measures.
The protest on Friday was outside the Hotel Lido Park & Spa in Peguera, where people were arriving for this weekend's triathlon.
