Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla and SpaceX have formed special committees to explore a potential merger, a move that could significantly boost his wealth through the accelerated vesting of Tesla shares. This development was revealed during SpaceX’s third-quarter 2026 earnings call, marking the company’s first profit report as a public entity. The potential merger would require the approval of at least 50% of all Tesla shares outstanding, as Musk is excluded from the decision-making due to a conflict of interest. Markets appear to interpret this exploration as a noteworthy indicator, with the potential for a formal announcement impacting the odds in prediction markets.

Key Takeaways

• Markets suggest increased confidence in a potential merger announcement by December 31, reflected in a slight rise to 20.5% YES odds.
• A significant spike in confidence is observed for a January 1, 2028, merger announcement, with odds rising to 70.5% YES.
• The potential merger could lead to a $110 billion increase in Elon Musk’s wealth, adding to market speculation and interest.
