TABORA: THE government has provided TANESCO with two vehicles worth 463.48m/- to improve its capacity to respond to electricity faults and maintain power infrastructure in Igunga District, Tabora Region.
TANESCO Igunga District Manager, Mr Raphael Ambonisye, said the vehicles would help to address transport challenges that had affected the utility’s operations.
He said TANESCO Igunga serves customers across an electricity network comprising medium- and lowvoltage infrastructure operating at 33 kilovolts and 0.4 kilovolts, respectively, extending for more than 1,500 kilometres.
“Maintaining such an extensive network required reliable vehicles to enable technicians to reach customers promptly and respond to faults across the district,” he said.
Before receiving the new vehicles, he said, the district office had three ageing vehicles that frequently required repairs, making it difficult to serve customers efficiently.

He pledged that staff would maintain the vehicles properly and use them responsibly to improve customer service and ensure timely maintenance of electricity infrastructure.
Speaking during the handover, Igunga District Commissioner, Ms Sauda Mtondoo said the vehicles would strengthen TANESCO’s ability to provide electricity services and support economic activities in the district.
“It is crucial to ensure that you maintain the vehicles regularly and avoid neglecting them until they became unserviceable,” she said.
Ms Mtondoo also reminded public servants that the government expected them to deliver efficient services to citizens, in line with President Samia’s commitment to improving public service delivery.
Meanwhile, Igunga residents welcomed the allocation, noting that Igunga’s large geographical area required adequate transport to enable electricity workers to reach customers on time.
They expressed hope that the new vehicles would improve responses to electricity-related complaints and speed up maintenance work across the district.
