The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has begun a province-wide crackdown on vehicles with fake, cloned and tampered number plates, using surveillance cameras installed across 43 “smart safe cities,” including Lahore.
A PSCA spokesperson said the cameras automatically detect suspicious number plates and issue instant alerts. The system also monitors vehicles whose registration numbers are covered with tape, cloth or other objects.
Following these alerts, several suspicious vehicles have been traced and seized in the provincial capital and other parts of the province.
The spokesperson said legal proceedings, including the registration of cases, are under way against those using fake, cloned or tampered plates.
