Purdue appears to have woken up following a sluggish start to the season and is chasing its third straight win when it hosts Washington in West Lafayette this Friday. The Huskies are in the opposite vein of form, meanwhile, and have been left chasing their tails near the base of the Big Ten after three straight defeats.
Washington suffered a narrow defeat at home to Minnesota last month before suffering two more setbacks against No. 12 USC and No. 17 Iowa. What’s more, it now looks like the team has lost starting quarterback Demond Williams Jr. to the rib injury he suffered against the latter, with no concrete return date as of yet.
Purdue sits on a 3-3 record overall, but this season could have been far different already. The Boilermakers suffered a heavily disappointing double-overtime defeat to Wake Forest in Week 2 but now boast some momentum after consecutive wins away to Illinois and at home to Minnesota, the latter ending in a 41-13 blowout.
Sophomore running back Fame Ijeboi had a day to remember against the Golden Gophers as he went for 195 yards and three touchdowns, his second hat-trick of the year already. Meanwhile, junior Elijah Brown is set to stand in for the injured Williams, having gone for 251 passing yards and three touchdown passes after replacing him in the defeat to Iowa.
