MetLife Korea said on the 20th that it has launched a non-dividend variable term life insurance product that combines death benefits with asset management through variable funds and conversion features tied to life-stage changes.
The product provides the death benefit that forms the core of term life insurance while allowing customers to manage assets according to their investment preferences and financial circumstances. Customers can select from a total of 30 variable funds, and additional payments and partial withdrawals are available. If a policyholder's accumulated balance remains after the basic coverage period ends, death benefits can be extended for another 15 years through a "plus coverage period."
The policy also includes a conversion feature that responds to changes in a customer's life stage. Contracts maintained in good standing for at least seven years after purchase can be converted into five options: a won-denominated annuity, a dollar-denominated annuity, dollar savings, whole life insurance or variable accumulation.
Depending on the coverage amount, policyholders can also access MetLife Korea's customer benefit programs, 360Health, 360Future and 360Biz. These include health care services such as consultations with medical specialists and referrals to leading physicians at major hospitals, as well as personal assistance for seniors and pet care services. Family members can also use the services, depending on the coverage amount.
The product comes in a standard version and a simplified version with fewer disclosure requirements. Based on coverage to age 90, the standard version is available to applicants aged 15 to 70, while the simplified version is open to those aged 30 to 75. Coverage periods can be chosen to end at age 60, 70, 80 or 90.
"While staying true to the death benefit at the heart of term life insurance, we have added fund investment and life-stage conversion features to deliver value that sets this apart from existing term life products," said Song Young-rok, chief executive of MetLife Korea.
