Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday, thanks to Noni Madueke’s late strike, while Manchester United extended their winless run to six matches in all competitions after drawing 1-1 with Leeds United.
Madueke scored in the 80th minute to hand Arsenal their sixth Premier League victory of the season and keep them second on the table with 18 points from seven matches.
The Gunners had struggled to turn their dominance into goals in recent outings, and Sunday’s encounter followed a similar pattern as both sides created chances but failed to convert them.
Kai Havertz missed two opportunities in the first half, while Forest also threatened Arsenal’s defence on several occasions but lacked the finishing touch to take the lead.
Forest continued to create chances after the break, but their wastefulness in front of goal proved costly against an Arsenal side that capitalised on a decisive moment.
Madueke broke the deadlock in the 80th minute, cutting inside onto his right foot before unleashing a shot that took a deflection and found the back of the net.
The victory kept Arsenal in second place, while Brighton moved close behind after thrashing Crystal Palace 5-0, scoring three goals within the opening 10 minutes.
At Elland Road, Manchester United’s difficult run continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United.
Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead under manager Michael Carrick, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised for Leeds to ensure both teams shared the points.
The result marked United’s sixth consecutive match without a victory in all competitions, their longest such run in seven years.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth defeated Sunderland 2-0 to complete Sunday’s Premier League results.
