The Lagos State Parking Authority, LASPA, has announced plans to introduce verifiable QR-coded uniforms and identification cards for authorised parking agents and marshals to help motorists identify legitimate personnel and improve parking management across the state.
A statement by the Lagos State government said the General Manager of , Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed this during a recent interview, where she stressed the need for technology, cooperation among stakeholders and greater private sector participation to improve parking services in Lagos.
Adelabu said the authority was putting measures in place to ensure a more effective, efficient and well-coordinated parking management system, with technology and innovation playing a central role in its approach.
She explained that successful technology-driven parking solutions would depend on accurate data, reliable systems and proper integration among relevant government agencies.
According to her, the planned QR-coded uniforms and identification cards would help motorists verify authorised parking personnel, while appropriate technological solutions would support the authority's efforts to improve service delivery.
The LASPA general manager also called on private businesses and investors to partner with the authority, noting that the government could not independently meet every infrastructure and service delivery need of the people.
"Sectors such as healthcare, education, childcare and transportation require significant attention and investment, making private sector participation essential to expanding parking infrastructure and improving service delivery," she said.
On the implementation of the on-street parking scheme, Adelabu acknowledged that parking activities were already taking place in some parts of Lagos but clarified that the initiative had not been fully introduced across its intended scope.
She attributed the delay in the full rollout to the need for better cooperation with private sector partners and adequate training before the scheme could be implemented more widely.
The authority said the additional preparation was necessary to ensure that the initiative was properly coordinated before its full deployment.
Adelabu also disclosed that the planned on-street parking arrangement would reserve one out of every 10 parking spaces for persons living with disabilities.
She stressed that accessibility for people with disabilities had been incorporated into the design and implementation of the parking system.
LASPA urged motorists, businesses, investors and other members of the public to support its efforts to establish an organised, accessible and sustainable parking management system across Lagos.
The authority said the initiative was aimed at improving mobility, making better use of urban spaces and contributing to a more liveable Lagos.
