Allegations of illegal mining on government land belonging to the Provincial Housing Authority (PHA) in Mian Essa area of Nowshera have raised concerns over potential losses of millions of rupees to the national exchequer. According to local sources and residents on Tuesday, valuable mineral resources are allegedly being extracted from government land round the clock, while no effective action has been observed to stop the activity. Public circles have also questioned the performance of relevant officials of the Mines and Minerals Department in Nowshera, alleging that the responsible authorities have failed to take effective measures to protect government resources. Residents said the alleged continuation of illegal mining had raised questions about the monitoring of government land and the protection of public resources. They urged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, the provincial minister for mines and minerals, the secretary of the department and other relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the matter, conduct an investigation into the government land and take action against those responsible if illegal mining is confirmed.
