A mysterious blast, suspected to have been triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), at an under-construction building in Pulakeshinagar in East Bengaluru on Tuesday left two people injured.
The injured Allauddin, working at the building, from Assam, is said to have lost a finger in the explosion. Suraj, a security guard, from Uttar Pradesh, escaped with minor injuries. He is being questioned by the police.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh quoted the injured persons as saying that the blast was triggered after one of them pressed the button of a torch. However, there is no clarity as to whether the torch exploded or it was used as a trigger mechanism of an IED.
Another senior officer familiar with the development told The Hindu that small wires had also been recovered from the scene and sent for forensic examination. “By the look of it, it has all the characteristics of an IED assembly, but it can be confirmed only after the FSL report is out,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Singh said that the Internal Security Division (ISD) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had been kept in the loop as they needed to ascertain the modus, or “the way used,” and exactly what had happened.
