Angel Reese has been dominant through the first three games of the WNBA Finals, and her Atlanta Dream squad goes into Game 4 against the Valkyries up 2-1. Reese followed up a 21-point, 12-rebound performance in Game 2 with 21 points and 12 rebounds in Game 3 as she continued her dominance, and people are taking note of her historic run.
“I understand because some folks are either fools or charlatans or bad actors. They can’t hear a white commentator talk about a Black WNBA player without calling it virtue signaling or some type of bullshit or trying to make Caitlin Clark a part of this story,” Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright said on What’s Wright?.
“I’m just calling it as I see it… She’s been phenomenal. Angel Reese’s performance these playoffs, as she might have her team on the doorstep of a championship, give her the opportunity to be right alongside—I’ll call it a step behind—A’ja Wilson as the top player in the sport.”
Now, one of her rivals in the WNBA, guard Sophie Cunningham, is weighing in on how impressive Atlanta looks.
“I am shocked by how much Atlanta is winning by. They’re not just winning, they are kicking complete ass,” she said on her No Hesitation podcast, “which is crazy because Valkyries had one of the best defenses all season long, and so did Atlanta. And so when I’m watching these games, when I’m looking at these breakdowns, yes, you know, Golden State, especially Gabby, like she struggled. She’s taking great shots. It’s the shot she normally takes, but they’re not falling.

“And sometimes That happens in basketball. That’s why you can’t always rely on your offensive ability. But what I’m telling you, what’s sticking out to me is Atlanta’s defense. I knew whatever team was going to come and bring it defensively, and that’s just not the first game of the series, it’s every single game of the series. Who can step it up even more?”
If Reese and Atlanta can finish the job and win the series, even her most ardent detractors will have no choice but to acknowledge her as the force she is.
