La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Monza striker Gustavo Varela, who has scored six goals in six Serie A appearances this season, has already attracted interest from Napoli and Arsenal.
Monza striker Varela has had a scintillating start to the season with eight goals in seven appearances across all competitions.
According to Gazzetta, his goals and performances have already attracted interest from bigger clubs such as Napoli in Serie A and Arsenal in the English Premier League.
Gazzetta: Varela attracts Napoli and Arsenal interest
With six Serie A goals so far, the same tally as Roma star Donyell Malen, Varela is the league’s second-top scorer, just one goal behind Frosinone striker Antonio Raimondo.
Varela scored a brace in Monza’s most recent Serie A match, which ended in a 4-0 win over Cagliari.
Varela, 21, joined newly promoted Serie A side Monza last summer from Benfica for just €2m, beating competition from other Italian clubs such as Venezia and Parma, as well as Hamburger SV in Germany and Paris FC in France.
Gazzetta claims Benfica do not have an option to re-sign Varela, who has signed a contract with Monza until 2030.
This means the Lombardy-based club has total control over the striker, yet Benfica still have an option to match any future offer received by Monza for Varela as well as a 20% sell-on clause.
