The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the Foreign Ministry has established what he describes as the first comprehensive database of Ghanaians living across the world, with particular attention to those requiring diplomatic and consular assistance.
He said the initiative forms part of the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare and dignity of Ghanaians, regardless of where they reside.
Mr Ablakwa disclosed this while congratulating four career diplomats recently commissioned by President John Dramani Mahama to represent Ghana in various countries and at international institutions.
The newly commissioned diplomats are Nana Antwiwaa Dodoo, appointed to Angola; Louis Kwame Obeng, to Qatar; Evelyn Korantemaa Ofosu-Amable, to Israel; and Jedidiah Reuben Adogla, who will serve as Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Foreign Affairs Minister expressed confidence in their experience and ability to represent Ghana effectively in their respective jurisdictions.
He also emphasised that ambassadors and high commissioners would be expected to meet their key performance indicators (KPIs), with particular focus on the welfare of Ghanaians abroad and the provision of consular assistance.
“Government expects our Ambassadors and High Commissioners to meet their KPIs and focus on the welfare and consular assistance of Ghanaians in their destinations.
“The Foreign Ministry has created the first comprehensive database of Ghanaians across the world with special emphasis on those in need of diplomatic and consular support.
“We shall continue to fiercely safeguard the welfare and dignity of all Ghanaians everywhere in the world,” he wrote on X.
