The debut season of Crystal Lake has come to an end, but is the Friday the 13th prequel really finished?
Peacock billed the show as a limited run, but with a finale that leaves the door open for more, there may still be blood to spill in the infamous New Jersey town.
Starring Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, the series sets the stage for the iconic ‘80s horror film franchise while exploring Pam’s grief and the complicated history of her serial-killing son, Jason Voorhees. So, has Crystal Lake been renewed for Season 2? Will there be more episodes of the Peacock horror series? Here’s everything we know.
Will There Be a Crystal Lake Season 2?
As of October 19, Peacock has not officially renewed Crystal Lake for a second season. However, fans may have a reason to be hopeful.
Creator Brad Caleb Kane told Deadline that he already has ideas for Season 2, and his sights are set on more than just the Voorhees family. He teased the possibility of bringing a more “Twin Peaks-y” feel to the show, with a greater focus on Crystal Lake’s colorful cast of residents, including Crazy Ralph (Nick Cordileone), Officer Dorf (Cameron Scoggins), and Trudy (Bernadette Quigley).
“Obviously, it’s not just Pam’s story,” he said. “It’s Crystal Lake, so you have all of the peripheral characters who are interesting to me.”
Still, Kane emphasized that Pam and Jason would always remain at the heart of the story.
He also suggested that, if it runs long enough, the series could eventually catch up to the events of the first Friday the 13th film, but he clarified that this would not happen in a second season.
“There’s more story to tell, for the residents of Crystal Lake and to the extent that Linda wants to continue the journey with us, with Pam. So, we’ll see,” he said.
The Season 1 finale certainly leaves that possibility open. Following a confrontation between Pamela, Jason and the people threatening their family, the episode jumps forward several weeks, ending with a group of campers exchanging stories about Jason in the woods. The familiar Friday the 13th musical cue serves as a final reminder to lovers of the franchise that the legend of Jason Voorhees has only just begun.
