SIOUX CITY, IA (KCAU) - The Hawkeyes are entering year number two under head coach Ben McCollum.
McCollum had about as good a first season as Hawkeye fans could have dreamed of with an Elite 8 appearance.
This year sees a solid returning core, talented newcomers, but no Bennett Stirtz. Hawkeyes return 10 players from last year's team and add two freshmen and two transfers.
Excitement is building, but McCollum isn't focusing on any specific goal.
During his media day presser, McCollum said, "I think my first year as a coach had a lot of goals, and we didn't attain any of them. I think we might have finished last. So I'm done with goals. My goals are just to play really, really hard, have a great day every single day, and create that habit. Make sure that we are intentional about those things. I think our group has done that. But that's how you build a real program that sustains itself. You focus on all your daily habits."
Hawkeyes open the season on November 3rd at home against Lipscomb.
