Young artists from Portimão will have their work on display at a new exhibition opening this week at the Continente Shopping Centre, as local art school Montradartekids celebrates its 15th anniversary.
Entitled Apis Mellifera, the exhibition will run from October 16 to 30, with an official opening on Saturday, October 17, between 5pm and 6pm.
Now in its fourth edition, the exhibition offers an opportunity for the public to discover the creativity and artistic talent of children and young people attending the school.
Founded in 2011, Montradartekids is a visual arts school in Portimão offering classes to children and teenagers from the age of five.
The project is led by Vanessa Barreto, daughter of Algarve artist Stela Barreto, and aims to introduce young people to different artistic techniques, styles and artists while encouraging them to develop their own creative expression.
According to Vanessa, the school’s mission goes beyond teaching practical artistic skills.
“We believe that it is through learning and knowledge that we grow,” she explained, highlighting the importance of nurturing curiosity and encouraging young people to observe the world around them.
Over the past 15 years, Montradartekids has sought to provide a creative environment where children can experiment, develop their imagination and gain confidence in their artistic abilities.
The forthcoming exhibition, whose title Apis Mellifera refers to the western honeybee, marks another opportunity to share the pupils’ work with the wider community.
Visitors can see the exhibition on the first floor of the Continente Shopping Centre in Portimão, at the Cultura no Centro space, until October 30.
