Karbi Anglong observed National Mourning Day and Black Day to pay tribute to the 41 innocent people from the Karbi community who were killed in a violent clash between the Karbi and Dimasa communities at Charsim-Presek in West Karbi Anglong on October 17, 2005.
The incident remains one of the darkest chapters in the history of the hill district. On that day, unidentified miscreants allegedly hacked 41 members of the Karbi community to death, leaving the region deeply scarred by the violence.
Since then, October 17 has been observed as National Mourning Day by the people of Karbi Anglong in memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
This year, people gathered at Charsim-Presek, the site of the incident in West Karbi Anglong, to remember the victims and pray for the eternal peace of their departed souls. A significant part of this year's observance was the installation and unveiling of statues of those killed in the violence, marking a solemn tribute to the victims and preserving their memory for future generations.
The programme was attended by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member and MLA Dr Tuliram Ronghang, Member of Parliament Amarsing Tisso, legislators from Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, and members of various organisations representing the hill district.
