Following on from their 3-0 win over Liverpool, Manchester City return to action tonight when they take on PSG at the Etihad Stadium. Tonight’s match is the second UEFA Champions League league phase fixture for both teams. Each side won their matchday one fixtures and tonight’s match promises to be a cracking match between two of the premier sides in Europe. Enzo Maresca’s side will be looking for their ninth consecutive win in all competitions tonight. However, they will face a proper test against Luis Enrique’s side. PSG are the current UEFA Champions League holders, having claimed back-to-back titles in 2025 and 2026.
Tonight also figures to be a special night for Manchester City. As reported by Jeremy Cross for The Mirror, Pep Guardiola is scheduled to return to the Etihad Stadium for the first time following his decade of dominance as Manchester City’s manager. Guardiola’s return ‘home’ will be a special moment in itself. The fact that it is occurring while City have been under siege from the media will make the moment that much more prominent.
Here is the latest Manchester City team news and my predicted City starting lineup for tonight’s match.
Latest City team news.
Manchester City enter tonight’s match against PSG in a great position in terms of the availability of their players. There were no major injury concerns to come out of City’s 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield. Yesterday, the City squad completed an open training session and the entire City first team squad completed the session.
Phil Foden is available for selection tonight. Foden has missed Manchester City’s past three domestic matches due to suspension. However, tonight’s match is a UEFA Champions League tie and Foden is available for selection. Also, Phil Foden’s three-game suspension has been served and his return is welcome news for Manchester City.
In terms of what lineup Enzo Maresca will start against PSG, I wonder if he may subtly rotate his team following on from Manchester City’s emotional win over Liverpool. Enzo Fernandez carried a heavy workload with minutes played and travel over the international break and perhaps Ayyoub Bouaddi could start in midfield alongside Elliot Anderson. There could also be a case to start Abdukodir Khusanov at right-back due to his recovery pace, given the threat that PSG possess out wide. Jeremy Doku could also make his first start since the FA Community Shield on the left wing.
My personal feeling is that Enzo Maresca may make several changes to the Manchester City starting eleven for tonight’s match, which are reflected below.
