Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has ordered investigation into the circumstances surrounding an explosion at an ammunition depot in a Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) base in the capital, Baghdad, according to the Iraqi Security Media Cell (ISMC).
Al-Zaidi stressed the need to expedite the investigation to find out the specific reasons for the incident and implement all essential safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The PMF announced on Saturday that five of its members had been wounded following an explosion at an ammunition depot located at one of its bases in eastern Baghdad.
The PMF confirmed in a statement that a fire—triggered by the explosion of a stockpile of damaged ammunition at one of its headquarters in eastern Baghdad—has been brought under control.
The statement indicated that the explosion caused minor injuries to five personnel. Specialized committees have initiated an investigation into the incident’s causes, and the findings will be announced upon the investigation’s conclusion.
During the early stages of the military conflict in the Middle East, which has spilled over into Iraq, several PMF headquarters were targeted in devastating bombings carried out by the United States.
