Tyler Perry Puerto Rico Mansion and Plans Explained

PUERTO RICO · FILM

The Tyler Perry Puerto Rico mansion, reportedly bought for US$30 million, is reportedly the first concrete step in the Atlanta producer’s announced move to the island. Perry, 57, said on Monday 14 September 2026 that he would relocate at the start of 2027, and Puerto Rican outlets reported on Saturday 17 October that he had bought a home there.

For US readers the story is about where a leading American studio owner will live and, reportedly, work, because Puerto Rico is US territory and its residents are US citizens. The purchase itself rests on one report, from the entertainment site TMZ, which El Nuevo Día and Metro Puerto Rico relayed.

This explainer sets out who Perry is, what is reported about the house, and what is known about the production plans. Our guides Moving to Puerto Rico 2026 Step by Step and Puerto Rico in Latin America, Its Role, Weight and Alliances cover the island itself.

Who Tyler Perry Is and Why His Move Matters

Perry is an American actor, writer, director and producer, best known for creating and playing Madea, the lead of a comedy film and stage franchise. His studio website says he bought the former Fort McPherson army base in Atlanta in 2015 and turned the 330-acre site into Tyler Perry Studios.

The studio lists twelve purpose-built sound stages on that lot. Cox Media Group’s national desk counts more than two dozen films and 17 shows in his career, and a recent film, Why Did I Get Married Again?, is streaming on Netflix.

On Monday 14 September 2026 Perry told TODAY correspondent Justin Sylvester, “I am officially moving to Puerto Rico,” adding that the move would come at the top of the year. He gave his age and his 11-year-old son Aman as the reasons, saying it was time to slow down and enjoy more time with the boy.

Perry also said he would be “pulling back a whole lot” from work, which is not the same as closing his Atlanta business. Atlanta Black Star noted that the plan could mean stepping away, at least in part, from the Georgia hub that made his name.

The Tyler Perry Puerto Rico Mansion in Detail

TMZ reported on Saturday 17 October that Perry bought a home in Puerto Rico for US$30 million, and El Nuevo Día published its account that afternoon. Metro Puerto Rico followed that evening and said the purchase closed recently.

Both outlets describe a house of 14,475 square feet inside a gated community. Metro adds that it stands on about 1.4 acres, was built in 2021 and has five bedrooms, ten bathrooms, a cinema room, a pool and a gym.

El Nuevo Día says the reports do not name the municipality where the house stands. None of the coverage we reviewed names the seller, quotes a property record or carries a statement from Perry or his representatives.

According to TMZ’s sources, as relayed by both outlets, Perry plans to set up a production office in Puerto Rico and film shows on the island. His Atlanta studios would keep operating normally.

From Announcement to Purchase: The Timeline

Perry’s plan went public on 14 September, and El Nuevo Día ran a gallery on 16 September asking which other celebrities live on the island. The purchase report arrived five weeks later, so the sequence fits his stated start date, though the reports do not say when the sale closed.

Realtor.com reported on 30 September that Perry listed his Beverly Hills estate for US$57 million on 29 September. That is an asking price, not a completed sale.

Why Film Production in Puerto Rico Matters

The Puerto Rico Film Commission, part of the island’s Department of Economic Development and Commerce, offers up to a 40% production tax credit on payments to Puerto Rico resident companies and individuals. For qualified nonresident individuals the credit is up to 20%, according to the commission’s website.

The commission traces its framework to Act 121 of 2001 and says the Incentives Code of 2019, known as Act 60, consolidated the programmes for creative industries. A production office of the kind reported could mean work for local crews and suppliers, but no hiring figures or projects have been announced.

El Nuevo Día placed the purchase in the debate over Act 60, which also offers tax benefits to some new residents. It said that debate covers public revenue and housing, and none of the reports we reviewed says Perry has applied for any benefit.

What It Means for You

Viewers and investors see no change yet, because the reports name no new productions and no listed company is involved. A filming base in Puerto Rico would matter most to crews, caterers, location owners and hotels, as well as to the island’s film office.

What Is Not Known

The house purchase rests on a single report from TMZ, and the outlets that relayed it did not independently confirm it. The municipality, the seller, the closing date and the exact terms are not public in the coverage reviewed.

It is not known which shows Perry would film in Puerto Rico, when work would start, or how many people it would employ. It is also not known whether his production company would seek the island’s film tax credits.

Perry has said he is “pulling back a whole lot” but has not said what happens to his Atlanta studio over time. The reports say only that the Atlanta operations would continue.
