KEPALA BATAS: Fourteen people, including two children, escaped unharmed when a fire damaged four houses at Kampung Kovil last night.
The fire broke out at 10.31pm, damaging three single-storey houses and one double-storey house.
State Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said all occupants had evacuated the houses before firefighters arrived.
He said two houses suffered about 90 per cent damage, another sustained 80 per cent damage while the fourth was damaged by about 20 per cent.
"The occupants managed to get out safely before the firefighting team arrived at the scene. No casualties were reported," he said.
John said the fire was brought under control at 10.55pm and extinguished at 12.25am today.
Firefighters then carried out overhaul work to ensure there were no remaining hazards.
The case was handed over to the department's Fire Investigation Unit for further investigation.
