Marking a significant milestone in the transformation of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, the foundation stone for the international terminal expansion under Project Anantha was laid here on Thursday, which marked the beginning of a major step in expanding the airport’s capacity and strengthening its infrastructure for the future.
The expansion will increase international passenger-handling capacity from 3.5 million to approximately 11.5 million passengers per annum, alongside enhanced passenger facilities, operational infrastructure and international connectivity. Project Anantha also marks a significant step towards shaping the next chapter of the airport’s growth. Chief Airport Officer P. K. Aju, Airport Authority Officer-in-Charge Mohan Roy and others took part in the ceremony.
With a proposed investment of ₹2,500 crore, the expansion will significantly enhance the airport’s operational efficiency and passenger experience along with international passenger-handling capacity. Spread across approximately 92,552 square metres, the airport’s larger transformation project is backed by an approximately ₹8,700 crore investment from Adani Airports, said the airport authorities. The proposed development encompasses terminal expansion and enhancements to landside and airside infrastructure, utilities, safety systems and passenger facilities, paving the way for a modern, future-ready airport.
